Tested by BCS laboratories issued 9/02/16 based on an adaption of NSF/ANSI P231 Protocol. These units are tested with two different types of water to challenge the filtration capability beyond the standard use. All figures quoted are taken from the stressed challenge phase of the test imitating sewage contaminated water.

Were extremely proud to announce that our LifeSaver Jerrycan has passed compliance testing for NSF Protocol P248 Military Operations Microbiological Water Purifiers. This certification means LifeSavers filter technology meets the high standards of the U.S. Military, and places the brand among a very elite few to have achieved this benchmark.

WHAT IS NSF PROTOCOL P248?

The NSF Protocol P248 was developed with the U.S. Army Public Health Command (USAPHC) based on the EPA Guide Standard, with the goal of providing deployed military personnel the capability to produce sustainable quantities of safe drinking water in any environment.

We achieved compliance after rigorous testing of our Jerrycan product, which tested multiple units beyond 5,000 litres of extreme sustained usage. P248 testing uses two strains of virus to ensure effective removal by the filtration system and pushes filters to the point of clogging to make sure they continue to protect the user after this occurs, effectively measuring the filters failsafe technology. Impressively, (if we do say so ourselves!) our LifeSaver Jerrycan filters didnt clog within the testing period and no replacement cartridges were required to complete the test. This meant the filters had to be artificially clogged to test the products FailSafe claims.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR LIFESAVER?

This certification gives us the green light to sell directly into the U.S. Department of Defense without any further performance evaluations required, says Joe Lovegrove, Technical Manager for LifeSaver. This is a landmark result for us as a commercial business and production facility, moving us into a different league than almost all our retail competitors. It should also be noted that although we tested Jerrycans, all of our filters are made to exactly the same standards using the same materials as those with which we passed this test.

The LifeSaver Bottle 4000UF is a microbiological water filter that uses ultra filtration technology to filter out viruses, bacteria, cysts and parasites from contaminated water sources. LifeSaver technology filters out bacteria to a minimum of Log 6 (99.9999%), viruses to a minimum of Log 4 (99.99%) and cysts to a minimum of Log 3 (99.9%) as specified by NSF Protocol 231, based on recommendations of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

NSF/ANSI standard microbial removal claims are 99.9999% or greater for bacteria, 99.99% or greater for virus, and 99.9% or greater for parasite cysts.
